The castle's purpose and history are significantly expanded upon in the 2002 remake, as are the variety of locations shown in the castle. It takes a minute or two to get the floors and such detached, but you could definitely carry this around easily to different rooms of your house.
The original playset was released in 1982, and all other depictions of the castle originate from it. I mean, this is a nostalgia trip unto itself unlike one I have had in a bit, and the art and photography take m back to the JC Penny’s catalogs of old in the most wonderful way. One of the more recent issues with the line has been that some of the figures have looked a little too bulky due to poorly designed removable armor pieces.Plus, the impressive Classics CG is in the mix, too, so this was staring down a couple of hard acts to follow. It is described as built by unknown beings before the Great War that wiped the old technology of Eternia. I think a lot of that has to do with the addition of the minaret on top, but without the minaret it's still larger (coming in at over 3. The Sorceress can't actually fit in it due to her wings, nor can larger figures like Ram Man, but most figures can pop on up here with ease.Would Blumhouse and Green do the un-thinkable by allowing McBride to dawn the mask, and having the world famous physical comedian wield who knows what as his weapon of choice? It’s not perfect (nothing is), but the colors, the notes to the vintage figures, and the release pace has got me all Masters-y again, and it feels great. Sure, it is not the scale I mainly collect these days, and Classics will likely always be my collector grade MOTU line, but so much of this line is do danged charming. Collectors will want to make this playset the centerpiece for an extensive He-Man and the Masters of the Universe display. It's a cool accessory and for some reason reminds me of the yellowish-orange weapon that came with Max Ray in Centurions.
I really think there's something special about the toys we play with, especially those that we grew up with or that are reminiscent of those we grew up with. This Origins version feels a bit more planned and designed, rather than asymmetrical and organic like the original, but it all comes together very nicely for the outer facade. Castle Grayskull was made as a playset for both the 1980s and 2002 Masters of the Universe toy lines. I don't think I've ever written an introduction to a review prior to having the opportunity to open and fully experience the product, but that's what I'm doing here.

It's an Epic purchase and even if you're not a fan of the aesthetics of the Origins line there's lots of potential here to please a MOTU fan. While I'm sure we'll get a regular Sorceress in her classic colors this is a pretty cool figure and a welcome addition to the set.
