Da die Grundzüge der Geschichte allen bekannt sein dürfte werde ich mich auf die Manga- adaptierung bzw. My oldest son has a fascination with Japanese style art, and there just are simply not very many options out there that I am comfortable with him viewing. Fair warning, it does not shy away from certain topics, and there are some bloodier-than-usual panels. Though, it is still about Jesus Christ's life, so we should consider this book really sacred and something to care about. It will be appreciated by young and old alike as it brings to life these people and the events they lived through, a real help if you're starting out or struggling with reading them in the Bible. Manga Majesty brings all things to conclusion with the story of John’s Revelation on the island of Patmos. I actually picked up the entire series while I was in Japan (there are 5 books in all, covering a lot from Genesis through Revalations). While it isn’t a word-for-word adaptation of the account in the Gospels, it does follow them very closely and gives a believable depiction of what the Gospel account would look like drawn in the Japanese style. He’s taken the sins of the world, which made God the Father turn away from Jesus so that He would take our punishment instead of us.

Manga Messengers (2011) addresses events starting with the reign of King Solomon and takes stories from several of the major and minor prophets, and the Book of Esther and concludes with anticipation of a messiah. I especially liked the unorthodox visions of angels that appear with a "Whooosh" as opposed to "Shazam! While seeing the ways that the artists chose to portray the Gospels in the manga format were often rewarding--and sometimes amusing--one of my favorite things about Manga Messiah was when the story emphasized subtle connections that I had never really thought about. This part also lacked low impact to the reader since beside they already knew that Yeshuah would suffered under persecution (I mean Jesus's story is really famous around the world) the drawing in this part has little suffering portrayed.

The sixth and the final book from the series, Manga Majesty (2019) concludes the story of apostle John's revelation in the island of Patmos and the revelations that mark the end of days. Although, be careful to use these excellent books as an overview for God's Holy Word NOT AS A SUBSTITUTE. I liked how the team summarize the whole life of Jesus in a smart, concise way, especially when it comes to his teachings and parables. Comixology's Jason Thompson was less impressed, heavily criticizing the art of the book, referring to it as the "most basic kind of manga shorthand—awkward geometric faces with big eyes, big hair, exaggerated expressions" with "blandly attractive" main characters, "dorky caricatures" of old RPG characters used for the villains, and crudely drawn backgrounds. The trio felt the manga contained extreme anti-Semitic views and was pushing for an idea of "objectifying Jews as non human".

While this graphic novel is not a literal, word-for-word presentation of the Bible, the text remains true to Scripture. When he first announced his vision, it was met with some derision, with other Christians feeling the books would be insulting to the gospel. I would recommend this to not just hardcore Christians but also people who want to know more about Christ and his story without sitting through a church service or tackling the bible and getting lost in complicated wording!

This is a great book for the older kids that are in the 'in between' stages of finding the Usborne children's bible babyish and the King James Bible boring.
