About this deal

Although the book was excellent I found myself feeling a bit doom and gloom after reading it, especially as I finished it a day after the UK PM pushing back on some of the UK green commitments. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Also included is one plant species, an orchid, making me aware of the practice of plant poaching, which is making many species of plant similarly in danger of extinction. This book takes just 20 of these amazing creatures, from the 'celebrities' of the red list - the tigers, the northern white rhino, the kakapo - to the lesser-known, and sometimes lesser loved ones, and paints a portrait of them, their world, and the people trying to protect them. Megan's enthusiasm for biodiversity and passion to save endangered species from extinction shines throughout. This book takes just 20 of these amazing creatures, from the 'celebrities' of the red list – the tigers, the northern white rhino, the kakapo – to the lesser-known, and sometimes lesser loved ones, and paints a portrait of them, their world, and the people trying to protect them.

As well as some of the well known species that are teetering on the edge of the abyss that is extinction, she also covers some lesser known species. A really brilliant insight into an array of endangered species with a fantastic mix of facts and real life experiences. There are currently 41,415 listed endangered vertebrate species, and over 16,000 of them are threatened with extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Animals is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. Her interest stems from a childhood growing up in and around the Isle of Wight Zoo, which specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of ex-circus and pet trade animals.

Vividly presented through full-colour maps and graphics, this fully revised and updated atlas profiles species lost, threatened and surviving today. Most well-known for presenting the BAFTA award-winning BBC Springwatch series and Animal Park , Megan is a passionate science communicator and biodiversity activist. Megan does seem to try not to paint too bleak a picture, but I’m afraid I was left feeling that despite the courageous work of the many individuals that she introduces us to in the book, who are fighting to preserve the featured species, it is all ultimately going to prove to be too little, too late. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. He is co-author of the World Health Organization's award-winning Inheriting the World: The Atlas of Children's Health and the Environment. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me.
