About this deal

Cellier packed her formula with Indian tuberose absolute, which gives it huge power and “sillage” (the olfactory trail). The first time a man ever smelled this perfume on me he said, "Man you smell delicious" and very soon after "What is that? bergamot, orange blossom, greens, peach, tuberose, jasmine, violet, iris, lily of the valley, carnation, sandalwood, musk, oakmoss, and cedar. Put simply, Fracas is a tuberose bomb—a powerful, lush, heady white floral with a narcotic undertow—but Cellier’s genius was in the way that she couched the polarizing flower in other notes to make it three-dimensional, round, and soft.

I spray it on to dream of the parties I will go to—soon, I hope—when everyone is free of worries, and we can all swoon to Fracas in a fracas-free world. The result is a signature, a persistence on skin, and a diffusion that are – all three – astonishing.

My mother bought a bottle about 3 years ago which had very watery levels of florals but so much of the blasted clean, white musk (which I personally loathe as a perfume note) that I actually blinked. However , I do agree that Fracas is more similar to Madonna’s Truth or Dare which I actually prefer . Piguet commissioned Cellier to create what would become Fracas in 1948, a time when women's fragrance design was a boys' club and her very existence was a novelty, if not an outright assault on 'good' taste. At Parfums De France, we offer a diverse range of designer niche perfumes and colognes with unique scent blends.

I should probably put some sort of comment to that effect in my post, but it’s a well-known, sad, basic truth is that every classic fragrance that is still on the market has been reformulated. It is a scent that some say should never be worn out to dinner because your neighbors at the table may be too overwhelmed to be able to taste their food. Then, one day, in 1998, I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area when I heard that Fracas was back. I prefer it perhaps to Serge Lutens’ modern take on Tuberose (Tubereuse Criminelle, I did a review of it) but I’m not crazy about either one, truth be told. On initial spray it exudes old Hollywood but it doesn’t smell dated like other “classic” scents (think Arpege).I knew that you loved vintage Opium – I remember you mentioning on Undina’s blog that you had a deep love for it, so for some reason I wouldn’t have pegged you as a Fracas lover too. In fleeting moments, I feel like I see a silhouette of a refined white floral; a voluptuous tuberose combined with a demure lily of the valley married to the powdery glamour of iris and violet harks back to a mid-century era where women were immaculately coiffed and put together.

In the US, you can also find Fracas available at Saks, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom (which only carries the Eau de Parfum version and the body lotion), and various online retailers.Top notes are Apple, Lime, Neroli and Bergamot; middle notes are Rose, Teak Wood and Patchouli; base notes are Labdanum, Musk and Vanilla. I think it might not be to everyone's tastes because it reminds you either of Drakkar Noir (some guys don't like that one) and Aventus which is also quite unpopular at the moment.
