About this deal

Professional Design and Construction for Durability For added durability, the Drill Doctor 750X features a metal split-point port and a die-cast point angle shuttle. Yeah, not sure on the little ones being worth sharpening, but I just KNOW I'll break my last one at 8 pm on a Saturday night.

Once the bit is sharpened, the Drill Doctor 750X gives you the option of making a unique BACK-CUT split-point bit that gives your bit an extra-narrow chisel point, making it faster to penetrate and less likely to wander on the material you are drilling in to. When someone did badmouth it, it often seemed like it might be because they hadn’t learned to use it properly by reading the instructions or watching the video that came with it.The grinding process creates grit that can cause the moving parts in contact with each other to wear out more quickly. I did probably 100+ drill just about a month ago, split more than half of them, and it took MAYBE an hour total. As such, it can grind many types of twist and masonry drill bits, including custom bits with carbide, cobalt, TiN coatings, high speed steel, carbon steel, black oxide, and split points. Exert the pressure you need with bar clamps and grip clamps from the most well-known brands in the industry, all at Busy Bee Tools. I mostly use drills for metal working and turning, and the drills I’ve sharpened so far cut as well as a new drill bit.

Adjustable material take-off: Allows user to change the amount of material removed during sharpening to further extend the life of your bits. Like so much else, with the rampant MBA bozos running everything into the ground, it seems "new and improved" has become nothing but a marketing ploy that really means "we found a way to cut more corners to improve the bottom line, and we want you to pay more too! I vented my frustration on them about not really telling the truth and they told me they were in the process of changing the user manual to explain that. What you are doing is setting the distance that the drill extends out of the chuck and aligning the drill’s flutes with the flats so they will be ground properly in the sharpening and split point ports. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Like you, I bought the DD750, though mine is the old style bought on combo clearance/after Christmas sale at Sears a few years ago. I am still using them and I bought a spare set to use as replacements if they become too dull or I break one. It looks like a chisel point bit at the center of the drill and then progresses into a split point bit. I think there’s a lot of value in having something like a Drill Doctor on hand, even if the cost won’t be recouped by the average home machinist.

Our huge selection allows you to complete your metalworking projects, or care for your tools, with the methods that best suit you. I have had it for about 25 years and recently managed to get replacement sharpening stones so I can use it again. It's no Darex or Christen, but then it also didn't cost 2 grand, and for most work it'll do the job adequately. It's obvious that the tool doesn't have the power to be sharpening larger than about 3/8" bits but I suppose as a marketing ploy, they tell you it can. It does not take long and is not hard, although you do need to be a little careful when reassembling the chuck.

Putting a split point on a drill bit is suppose to be even harder and requires a grinding wheel with a sharp, not rounded, edge. The owner’s manual says that the diamond wheel will last an average of more than 200 sharpenings, and if you don’t sharpen bits bigger than 1/2-inch you can double its life by turning it upside down. Not much better than I can do by hand with either a belt grinder or a die grinder with a thin cut-off wheel mounted in it. Some woodworkers keep their old drill bits for that day somewhere down the road when they’ll have time to sharpen them. We are proud to be one of the first companies in the industry to begin importing and manufacturing machines for the market back in the late 70’s. I remember reading that the diamond grit sharpening wheels are a bit too course for a really good result. Lastly, to hold your precious projects in place while you work on them, we carry high-quality metalworking vises that provide superior grip and peace of mind.
