About this deal

Then the leader in the front pulled Reacher along the leather seat and passed him on to the jumpy guy. The plot still seems like something lifted from an action movie and doesn’t bear much scrutiny even though it gets the job done. If they were going east, they would be right through Indiana and just about out of Ohio by now, maybe just entering Pennsylvania or West Virginia. Just helps to understand his 'time life' from being a 'Major' in the Military police, to being a drifter traveling USA on his own terms.

The FBI is desperate to rescue the woman, a Special Agent from the Chicago office, because the FBI always - always - takes care of its own, and because this woman is not just another agent. Learning that he'll be executed, Holly escapes her room by killing the guard that brought her food and takes her rifle.Unfortunately, there are a number of innocent bystanders who might be hurt if the kidnappers manage to get off any shots. Aware of the fate that befell the Confederate states in past times he rather needs a bit of leverage on the powers that be to stop his ambitions going the same way as those who decided that the Union was not for them in the nineteenth century. This is told in the third person, which is necessary, as there are times when Reacher isn’t with the kidnap victim, and we need to know what’s happening with her. From a ridiculous opening set-up, the novel descends into a mixture of adolescent fantasy, incredible happenstance, laughable set pieces and ridiculous plot twists. She meets Jackson, an FBI agent working undercover, who offers to help her escape, but she refuses to leave without Reacher.

He reached around and shook her hand and they smiled brief ironic smiles together at their mutual formality. After Reacher fails to take advantage of an opportunity to escape during the night, Holly insists that he let her handle things. The four of them were standing there on the street, three of them still like statues and the fourth hopping slightly from foot to foot.I know this was written pre-9/11 shortly after the Ruby Ridge and Waco incidents, but it was also after the Oklahoma City bombing (Which is never mentioned.

It was completely enjoyable and I really liked listening and plan to do quite a few more from this series. I very much appreciated that the female character featuring in this story (Holly) was a strong, brave, intelligent woman, totally badass in her own right. As the FBI round up the remaining militia members and demolish the camp, Reacher discovers that Holly's cabin isn't actually filled with dynamite and realizes that Borken sent Stevie, the last kidnapper in a truck filled with it to San Francisco, where he plans to detonate in the middle of a crowd celebrating the Fourth of July. So somebody is either looking for a ransom, or you've already become a potential problem to somebody, even though you're new, and either way you should have taken more care of yourself. She was fit and strong, she learned to shoot, she murdered the leadership reaction course, she scored outstanding in the simulated shoot-outs in Hogan's Alley.I think the worst bit of Die Trying would have to be the random sexual advances none of them really made sense and it kind of ruined the story for me. They were hard at work loading their truck with every last plaster fragment when the employer himself stopped by. I enjoyed this a little less than book one ( Killing Floor) in terms of plot, but that's mostly due to the fact that the whole dangerous militia group thing annoys the shit out of me as a rule.
